Atlantic Patagonia
- More Information
The continental mass of the Andean Patagonia steeply finishes in the sea, giving form to cliffs of high altitude, those that on their feet, hide beautiful beaches. It is for that reason that is denominated like Atlantic Patagonia to this zone, since it is contiguous with the Atlantic Ocean. Between its main cities they are: Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, Trelew, Comodoro Rivadavia, Río Grande y Río Gallegos. This region is characterized for being the subaqueous capital of the country, since the Atlantic or Patagonia Extraandean owns a rich coastal edge in marine fauna, concentrated especially in the Peninsula Valdés (declared in 1999 World-wide Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO). Different species can be appraised in the Extraandean zone of the Argentine Patagonia, among them magallanic penguins (ends September to March), and frank austral whales (June to December), besides diverse species of dolphins, orcas, sea elephants and sealions. The zone has many attractions like Las Grutas, that are cliffs that reach up to 30 meters of height and create beautiful panoramas. In Puerto Madryn, we can find the EcoCentro, cultural enclosure that is dedicated to the preservation of the marine fauna of the region and in Trelew it is the Museum Edigio Feruglio (MEF), that maintains registries of the paleontological patrimony of the Patagonia. The Natural Monument of Petrified Forests cannot be forgotten, since it constitues the greater fossil vein of petrified giant araucarias in Argentina. One of the major attractives of this zone are the presence of beautiful baches that allows the pracrice of: swimming, diving, sport fishing, kayaking, boating, windsurf, katesurf and motosky, between others, wich turns it into the favorite region of the fanatics of the aquatic sports.
