The northeast, known like Plain Platense, owns a surface of 1.200.000 km2s, which is divided in two sub-regions: chaqueña and mesopotamic. This zone limits at the north with the Pilcomayo river, to the east with the rivers Paraguay and Parana, to the west with the northwest region, represented by the skirts of great mountainous masses and to the south with the Salado river. The chaqueña subregion is composed by a wooded plain, that is geographically flat and uniform in which a rather tropical climate predominates. Nevertheless, two climatic stations prevail: humid (it presents/displays pick of precipitations in January) and the drought (it registers the smaller amount of rains in July). By its climatic condition, this zone presents/displays a selvatic flora, where the hard wood forests predominate. This region not only exhibits a floral wealth, but it owns the natural resources to practice fishing and hunting. Between its main cities we found Resistance, Formosa, Roque Saenz Rock, North part of Santa Fe, most of Santiago del Estero, and the east of Salta. On the other hand, the mesopotamic subregion owns a marshy character, since it receives an important rain volume because of his low geography crossed by diverse rivers. To the south of this zone are low mountain ranges and matting that cause the break in channels of rivers and give birth to jumps, rapids and cataracts. Among them the well-known Cataracts of Iguazú (declared Natural World-wide Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO). By its geographic composition, in this Pampan region - unlike chaqueña- the four climatic stations appear defined, contributing temperate temperatures. This, as well, foments an abundant flora in which the formation of prairies and steppes of gramíneas predominates, which explains the flowery mountain presence.
