Extreme diversity

Chaco, in northeast Argentina, is one of the youngest provinces in the country, dedicated to agricultural life after years of work in cotton plants and cutting of trees.

It is a special place, in more ways than one. It has the largest number of European immigrants in the country, mainly from Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and

Checoslovaquia. At the same time, it has the most descendents of aborigin towns in the country, especially wichís, mocovíes and tobas.

It is mostly a flat territory, where you can see two geographic zones: Eastern Zone, where you can see lower territory, and the Western Zone, with xerophile vegetation and soil rich in salpetre.

Attractions

In the Chaco province there is a regional zoo, which is the home of over a thousand animal species, many of them native of this area and others in danger of extinction. It is only a few miles away from Saenz Peña.

Other important parks are the Pampa del Indio Provincial Parque (excelent diversity, especially floral), the Chaco National Park (15 thousand hectares of flora and fauna, paths for hikkers and bikers, photographic safari), and the Fuerte Esperanza Natural Reserve, in the semiarid part of the province.

For those who seek adventure, it is recommended to visit Campo del Cielo, where you can see meteorites and asteroids on the roads, millenary rocks attracted by gravity towards the Earth, rocks that fell into this place over two thousand years ago.

How to get there

From Buenos Aires, there are daily flights to the airport in Resistencia, capital of Chaco. By land, through the combination: RN9 y RN11.
