Cuyo is a geographic zone in the center-western part of Argentina, which includes several provinces: San Juan, Mendoza, San Luis and Southern La Rioja. It is located next to the Andes mountain range, in a semiarid climate, where there used to be a path to the Pacific Ocean, through Chile, centuries ago.
Geographically, Cuyo is a place of contrast, where arid ground joins big rivers and huge mountains. This natural variety allows tourists to enjoy different types of sports and adventure activities, which include walking through signalized paths, trekking and ecological tourism.
- Attractions
The provinces that are part of Cuyo show wonderful natural attractions. In Mendoza, for example, you can visit the Paso de la Cumbre (High Pass), which connects Argentinean territory to Chilean land, and includes the Puente del Inca (Inca Bridge).
In San Juan, you can visit the Ischigualasto National Park or the Valley of the Moon, where geographic formations shaped by the wind have created a unique landscape. In this area, there are several rivers where you can practice water sports or simply sit and observe the life around them, relaxing by its shore.
For those who enjoy sports in winter, Cuyo is an ideal place to go considering that the mountains of the Andes are covered in snow all winter, allowing skiiers and snowboardist to go and play.
