Over a hundred years of history welcome you to San Martin de los Andes, a small town that has been able to survive mixing the traditional life style of the mountains and the modern aspects of a tourism town. Because of its geography and weather conditions, it is possible to visit it al year.

It features twenty thousand inhabitants, who are mostly dedicated to tourism related activities, the real motor of the town. It’s the people who keep commerce alive, taking care of parks and national reservations, and developing tourism activities for those who travel to the area.

Mountains, lakes, creeks, rivers, valleys and forests are part of this section of Patagonia, being the chosen destination for those who enjoy relaxed and peaceful vacacions, as well for those who like to practice adventure activities while away.

San Martín de los Andes is also the starting point for those who want to embark in the Seven Lakes Route, a road that connects San Martin to Angostura.

Attractions

San Martín de los Andes. Surrounded by mountains and native forests, it is a quiet town that invites to relax while you visit it. You can see historic monuments and buildings, taste typical meals and walk down its beautiful streets. There are guided tours around the city, organized by the city council, for 12 dollars per person.

Parque Nacional Lanín: it is the main scenario for adventure sports in the summer. With native flora and fauna, it features mountains you can climb, lakes to sail in and paths to walk or cover on horseback, amongst many other attractions.

Other places to visit are Chapelco Hill, where you can practice ski and snowboard; Quila Quina Villa, a nearby town to Catritre beach, where you can camp or visit ranches; Epulafquen Thermal waters, with 19 pools of mineral water; and different lagoons, hills and forests.

Seven Lakes Route: this is a road that connects San Martin to Angostura, taking the National Route 234 and going through Hermoso River. The road, as its name already tells you, goes through seven lakes in the area. You can cover the road on foot or bike, just be sure to take the time to breath in all the beauty of its landscapes.

How to get there

By land, from Buenos Aires, taking RN 3, RP 51 (Buenos Aires), RN 22, RN 237, RN 40 and RN 234 (por Bahía Blanca). From Neuquén, through RN 22, RN 237, RN 40 y RN 234.

By air, it is recommended to fly to Neuquen, the capital of the province, and then continue the trip by land.
