Glaciers’ national capital
Right by the Calafate hill you can find the city of the same name, in the province of Santa Cruz. With almost 17 thousand inhabitants, El Calafate keeps typical traditions in its architechture, which gives it a peaceful and serene look in the Southern part of the country.
It is known as the national capital of glaciers, because the city is where all excursions to the nearby national parks begin, where you can see enormous blocks of ice.
It is a beautiful tourism villa that includes a creek in th middle of the city, and that has developed hotel and gastronomic infrastructure to receive thousands of tourists every year, waiting to see all the landscapes that the south has to offer.

El Calafate: tourism villa founded in 1927, starting point for expeditions to national parks and glaciers in the area. With a lovely architechture that keeps traditions alive and combines it with modern looks to protect families from weather conditions in the winter, it is an ideal place for a relaxed time away from big cities.
Los Glaciares National Park: Patrimony of Humanity since 1981. With over 600 thousand hectares, it is the ideal place to really see the detachment of glaciers, enormous pieces of frozen water that survive in the most southern area in the world.
Perito Moreno Glacier: in the National Park of the same name, and less than 80 kilometers away from the city, it has a surface of 257 Km². The glacier includes two hills (Fitz Roy and Torres), which can be accessed to practice ice hiking.
Cuevas del Walichu, 9 kilometers away from th city. There are geographic formations in altitude, where you can see the drawings of the original inhabitants of the area in the many caves there found.
Other points of interest are Fritz Roy Hill, Roca Lake, Argentino Lake and Onelli Bay. You can also go on a nautical safari, which takes tourists on a trip through lakes and glaciers in the area, from where you can appreciate the deatchment of ice blocks and the stunning southern landscape.
