Salta and Northwest

The northwest, known by its beautiful panoramas, is a mountainous region that is conformed by plateaus of 3000 meters of altitude on the level of the sea. When climbing the gorges, are high territories of the Puna that exhibit wonderful extensive landscapes of salars and lakes habited by diverse species of birds. In this zone are volcanic cords with high altitude, among them the Socompa, the Llullaillaco and the Tridente, which are inactive at the moment. The gorges of great slope appear in the full central zone, filled with color where stands out the red, orange, ocher and yellow of hills, like the Gorge of Humauaca in Jujuy (declared Patrimony of the Humanity in 2002, by UNESCO), meanwhile to the east are the Andean Mountain ranges that appear with a height that slightly surpass the 2000 meters like transition to hoisted plains of the Chaco. Salta and San Salvador de Jujuy are based in zones of ample valleys that own tropical climate, reason why produce intensive cultures. They emphasize the Valley of Lerma in Salta, the one of Jujuy, the Valleys Calchaquíes or of Yocavil and Field Santo. In this zone the spanish inheritance of its settlers prevails, reason why it is possible to appreciate a colonial architecture in adobe churches, hidden chapels and old property that complement the beautiful surroundings of this zone. The cities of Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, Jujuy, Santiago del Estero and La Rioja conforms the Northwest of Argentina, contributing each diverse wonders that hope to be explored by tourists who appreciate the beauty of natural landscapes. Diverse activities can be realized in this zone. Among them: hang-glider, trekking, rafting, cavalcades, fish sport, strolls and nautical activities, thermal baths, observation of flora and fauna.
