The capital of the Salta province is located in a beautiful valley, founded by Spanish coloners in the 16th century. It is one of the few Argentinian cities that still feature buildings of that time, set around the main square, where you can also find museums and public buildings.

Being the capital city of the province, Salta has received many resources to develop tourism venues, so today it offers different types of hotels and restaurants, fit for all kinds of budgets. In the city you can also visit museums, parks, craftwork centers and a casino.

The main attraction, however, is the Train to the Clouds, a trip made by train –obviously- that takes you over four thousand meters in altitude, from where you can really see all the natural wonders of the city.

Visiting Salta and its beautiful sightings. It is possible to take walks to the nearby towns, ideal to spend a relaxed vacation or practice adventure sports. Some of those places are Vaqueros, La Caldera, San Lorenzo, Cerrillos, La Merced and El Carril, amongst many others.

The Train to the Clouds, something you cannot miss when you visit Salta. It’s big enough for 520 people and it has an infirmary, bar, restaurant and seven first-class carriages. You can get your tickets at the Salta railway station.

From Salta, you can also visit other atractive zones in Jujuy, found merely miles away from the city.

How to get there

Buses from Buenos Aires to Salta are a daily affair. By car, you use the RN68. By air, there are flights from nearby countries and from Buenos Aires.
