Where the rivers are born
The capital of the Tucuman province gets its name from the quechua tongue, which denominated as “Yucuman” to the place where rivers are born. It is a modern city, where night life is agitated thanks to the presence of universities and young people living there for most of the year. At the same time, Tucuman is known for being a classic city, where colonial buildings are still standing and give that elegant touch to most of its streets.
The most important part is the Independence Square, the main square, where the rest of the city grows from, with important buildings such as the Cathdral, the House of Government, the Economic Federation and others.
The Historic House is only a few blocks away. This building is a symbol of independence for the Argentinian people, because there is where the act of independence was signed in 1816. In its interior you can find a museum with interesting artifacts that tell the story of the province and the country.
Other buildings of importance for their architechture and culture and the San Francisco Church, the Post Office Building, the Municipal Theater, the Archeological Museum, the Legislative Building and the Tucuman Casino. Merely blocks away from one another, these buildings show the classic formation of the city and the introduction of modern elements to the Tucuman’s life style.
These are not the only places of touristic interest in the city, so it is really worth it to take the time and walk around and through it, enjoy every corner and find all the hidden wonders of it, which include coffee houses and museums.
