Town of splendid entrance

Two thousand meters above sea level you can find Tafí del Valle, a small town in the western side of the Tucuman province. Originally, it was inhabited by the diaguita people, who gave it its current name, and today is features a stable population, which takes care of the natural reserves and parks in this important tourism zone.

The town has started a modernization stage to attract more tourists, but in spite of that Tafi still maintains that nostalgic air, which tells stories of all the people who took refuge in the area, behind rock constructions, for its heavy climate, the wind and attacks from other tribes. Some rocky formations are standing still.

Tafí del Valle is surrounded by mountains, amogst which the most important are Calchaquies Peaks, Tafi and Mala Mala, all of which are over the 3500 meters of altitude; as well as Cerro Muñoz, which is over 4 thousand meters of altitude.

It is a peaceful town, with good climatic conditions, ameable people, excelent food service and accomodations. The villa is right next to the mountains, so it is surrounded by nature and pure air, a real nice breather for those who live in big cities.

Attractions

Besides walking through the streets of the villa and explore its surroundings, you can visit other specific places in Tafi del Valle, places of cultural, historical and archeological importance. The Jewish Museum, for example, is a place that meets all those characteristics and, also, has a permanent display of tools and documents from colonial time, a presential witness of the history of the province.

Another interesting place is the Myth and Legend Museum, where you can get a good look of the area’s folklor, with its legends and mythical stories, many of them still alive thanks to the oral passing, generation through generation since the diaguita people time.

Natural attractions in the sector are La Quebrada, only ten kilometers away from the city, and many farms nearby. You can also visit the Calchaquies Peaks Provincial Park, with over forty thousand hectares of forest, where nativa fauna lives; and the Los Menhires Park, where you can see blocks of stone that are over two thousand years old.

In February there are big celebrations in the area, one of them is the Cheese Party. For Easter, a lot of people travel to this place to see the main event: the Passion of Christ.
